AI Platform Engineer | Perth or Australia-wide | $180k–$220k + super
The quick version
- Build the unified AI platform that powers multiple safety-critical products used globally
- Own end-to-end deployment of ML models into real-world, resource-constrained environments
- Be the credible technical expert connecting distributed ML teams across AU, UK, Europe and Asia
Why this role exists
This organisation is bringing together several acquired products into a single modern AI platform. Until now, AI and ML work has been fragmented across global teams. They need a senior engineer who can bring direction, credibility and robust MLOps maturity.
What you’ll do
- Design and build the core AI platform enabling multiple product teams to deliver ML features at scale
- Develop reliable, secure and automated ML deployment pipelines for models used in sensitive, high-stakes domains
- Operationalise models for extremely low-resource environments (e.g. student devices with minimal CPU)
- Standardise tooling, patterns and governance across disparate AI/ML groups in AU, UK, Spain and Sri Lanka
- Evaluate and adapt existing models from research/uni teams, ensuring they meet production and compliance requirements
- Containerise, optimise and ship models using modern MLOps approaches (Docker, CI/CD, testing, monitoring)
- Influence architectural decisions and create a clear technical direction for the evolving AI ecosystem
- Provide hands-on technical credibility — visible evidence of past impact is highly valued
What you’ll bring
- Proven MLOps experience taking ML models into production (not just experimentation or model-building)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals across Python and cloud (AWS or Azure)
- Experience with containerisation, orchestration, CI/CD and ML lifecycle tooling
- Ability to design platforms supporting multiple product teams and diverse model types
- Demonstrated evidence of real-world impact: scale delivered, products shipped, talks given, open articles/projects etc
- Experience working with distributed or cross-timezone teams
-
Nice to have: background in edge ML or optimisation for constrained devices, experience unifying legacy/duplicated ML stacks
Team & ways of working
- Join a growing AI function spanning Australia, UK, Spain and Sri Lanka
- Work with Head of AI, ML Engineers, Data Engineers and product stakeholders
- Hybrid for Perth; fully remote considered Australia-wide
- Collaborative, delivery-focused environment with transparency and credibility valued above everything
Compensation & details
- Permanent, full-time
- $180k + super (depending on experience)
