SNOWFLAKE DATA ENGINEER / PLATFORM ENGINEER
South of the river office | 3-month contract | ~$1000 p/d incl. super
The quick version
- Fix, harden and future-proof a Snowflake tenant that’s already delivering value
- Heavy on platform, security, RBAC and cost governance (not a pipeline slog)
- Leave behind a clean, well-documented Snowflake environment the business can run with
Why this role exists
A large Australian organisation is rolling out Snowflake-driven self-service analytics and AI use cases. The product layer is live. What’s needed now is a senior Snowflake specialist to re-architect the tenant, lock down governance and make costs predictable, before scale accelerates.
This is a classic “come in, optimise, and hand it back better than you found it” contract.
What you’ll do
- Review and remediate an existing Snowflake tenant currently operating in test mode
- Design and implement best-practice Snowflake architecture including environments, databases and schemas
- Build a robust RBAC model across multiple business functions (eg HR, Finance, Operations)
- Implement Snowflake security and governance controls aligned to enterprise risk expectations
- Ensure Snowflake Intelligence/agent use is safe, least-privilege and production-ready
- Stand up credit usage monitoring, cost controls and alerts (FinOps)
- Produce clear documentation, runbooks and handover materials for internal teams
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience setting up or re-architecting Snowflake tenants end-to-end
- Deep hands-on capability with Snowflake RBAC, security, roles, grants and permissions
- Strong understanding of Snowflake cost management, warehouse optimisation and credit monitoring
- Confidence designing governance for complex, multi-department organisations
- Ability to work autonomously and explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong documentation and knowledge-transfer mindset
Nice to have
- Exposure to Snowflake Intelligence, Cortex or agent-based analytics
- Background in asset-intensive or enterprise environments
- Familiarity with modern ELT tooling and schema change risk management
Team & ways of working
- Work closely with product owners, analytics leadership and IT support
- Hybrid setup with time split between Perth metro offices and WFH
- Pragmatic, outcome-focused environment with minimal bureaucracy
Contract details
- Initial 3-month contract

Why it’s different
- You’re not building dashboards or pipelines you’re designing the foundation
- Real influence over how Snowflake is governed long-term
- Clear mandate, executive support and defined success outcomes
