Why this role exists

A boutique, technology-led analytics consultancy is investing in the next phase of growth. They need a Director to lead and grow a Data Science & Operations Research practice, set the technical vision and drive revenue through long-term client relationships. The role has three key operatives:

1. Business Development & Growth
2. Practice Leadership & Delivery
3. Client & Market Leadership

What you’ll do

• Own practice growth: originate, shape and close multi-stream analytics and optimisation programs
• Leverage your senior network to secure engagements across airline, telco, media, energy and similarly complex environments
• Build strategic alliances and go-to-market plays; represent the practice at industry forums and events
• Set technical direction across optimisation, ML and decisioning; ensure solutions translate to board-level value
• Lead, mentor and grow a team of data scientists and OR specialists; foster innovation and continuous learning
• Oversee delivery quality and commercial outcomes; champion repeatable IP, governance and excellence
• Act as trusted advisor to C-suite on analytics transformations and operating models
• Drive a culture of collaboration, purpose and high impact

What you’ll bring

• Proven track record building and scaling analytics practices with P&L responsibility
• Deep expertise in operations research/optimisation (e.g. linear & mixed-integer programming, constraint programming) and advanced analytics; able to lead technical discussions
• 8–10+ years leading complex analytics programs in consulting or industry, with wins and deliveries at $500k+
• Senior client network across multiple industries; exceptional stakeholder management and communication
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to inspire high-performing teams and roll up sleeves when needed
• Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. OR, Maths, Engineering, CompSci); postgraduate highly regarded
• Nice to have: experience across airline, telecommunications, energy or other complex operational environments

• Boutique consultancy environment with a growing OR/Data Science team
• High collaboration with consultants, data engineers and domain SMEs; exec-level client exposure
• Initially, a team of three direct reports with plans to grow to 10+ in next two years
