Why this role exists:
The organisation is modernising its data estate moving workloads to Azure, improving reliability, and embedding DevOps principles. They need a seasoned SQL Server DBA to take ownership of database health, performance and uptime.
What you’ll do
- Manage and optimise SQL Server environments (on-prem & Azure SQL)
- Design, implement and maintain database architectures and migration plans
- Oversee backup, recovery and high availability; Always On, clustering, geo-replication
- Tune performance through indexing, query optimisation and monitoring tools (Spotlight, SQL Profiler, Azure Monitor)
- Implement and enforce security controls and compliance standards
- Automate patching, builds and deployments within DevOps pipelines
- Partner with infrastructure and data engineering teams on upgrades and maintenance
- Troubleshoot complex issues and support production systems in an enterprise environment
- Maintain documentation and contribute within Agile sprints
What you’ll bring
- Deep SQL Server administration expertise (2016–2022, on-prem & Azure SQL)
- Proven experience in HA/DR design, configuration and testing
- Strong grasp of performance tuning and monitoring best practices
- Security-first mindset with RBAC and audit trail experience
- Familiarity with PowerShell, CI/CD tools or automation frameworks
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Bonus: exposure to cloud data platforms, containerisation or Infrastructure-as-Code

Compensation & details
- $850 to $950 p/d including super
- 6 or potentially 12 month contract
- Perth CBD or Eastern suburb office
- 2 days work from home available
- Australian work rights required
