Computer Vision Engineer

Permanent · Full time · Perth, Western Australia

Employment type: Permanent, full time

Location: Perth CBD office, with travel as required

Team: Joins an expanding internal Technology and AI team

The opportunity

Our client is a well-established agribusiness with operations spanning the full supply chain. They are scaling an internal AI capability and are looking for a Computer Vision Engineer to help lead the design, development and deployment of AI and computer vision solutions right across the business. This is a genuine build role. You will have significant scope to shape how AI is embedded across the organisation, working on real operational problems where the models you ship change how the business runs rather than sitting in a proof of concept folder.

About the role

Reporting into the Technology team and working alongside operational leaders and external partners, you will drive the application of machine learning and visual AI to improve efficiency, quality control and decision making. You will own use cases end to end, from framing the business problem through to a model running in production.

The work spans both on-premise and cloud environments. You will deploy models to local compute infrastructure at operational sites where latency or connectivity demands it, and lean on cloud platforms where they make sense. Business intelligence teams and external partners support the work where appropriate.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deploy computer vision and machine learning models for operational use cases including livestock monitoring, product quality inspection and process automation.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to identify and prioritise AI use cases that deliver measurable value across the business.
  • Build and maintain production-grade models across both on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Translate business problems into technical solutions and communicate outcomes back to non-technical operational stakeholders.
  • Work with the Technology team and external partners to embed AI into the organisation's operations.

Indicative candidate profile

The successful candidate is a hands-on engineer who is equally comfortable building production-grade models, collaborating with operational stakeholders and translating ambiguous business problems into shipped solutions.

  • Strong commercial experience delivering computer vision models into production (object detection, classification, segmentation or similar).
  • Solid software engineering foundations in Python, with hands-on use of modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Practical MLOps and model deployment experience across cloud and edge or on-premise environments.
  • A track record of working directly with operational or non-technical stakeholders to define and prioritise use cases.

Why this role stands out

  • Greenfield scope to shape how AI and computer vision are embedded across a large business.
  • Real-world impact. Models go into production and influence livestock monitoring, quality and supply chain decisions.
  • Breadth across the full stack of the problem, from edge deployment at site through to cloud platforms.
  • A permanent, Perth-based role with a clearly expanding internal AI team rather than a single isolated hire.

Location and work arrangement

Based in our client's Perth CBD office, with travel to operational sites as required (minimal and day trips). This is a full time, permanent position. Flexibility and hybrid arrangements available.
